Shooting B-roll on your phone

Short answerB-roll is the extra footage you cut to while you talk: hands, details, the place, the process. Film 5–10 short clips of 3–5 seconds each, steady and well lit.
  • Close-ups of hands and objects.
  • A wide shot of the place.
  • A slow push in or pull out.
  • The before and after.
  • Movement: walking in, pouring, opening.

Hold each shot for a few seconds longer than you think.
